What’s Trending Today

AI effect

The real cost of AI at work isn’t job loss. It’s self-belief.

Mehdi Paryavi

The CEO of a global data think tank just issued a warning: AI might not replace you but it could make you forget what you're capable of.

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • Mehdi Paryavi says AI is accelerating a silent crisis in the workplace: cognitive erosion.

  • Workers who overuse AI start deferring critical thinking, writing, and decision-making eroding the skills they once mastered.

  • It’s not obvious at first. AI makes you feel more productive. But speed masks the slow decay of depth.

  • Early-career professionals are most at risk. Relying on AI too soon can rob them of the hard-won lessons that come from doing the thinking themselves.

  • Even experts aren’t immune. As confidence drops, dependency grows — turning workers into spectators of their own jobs.

  • Paryavi’s advice: let humans lead the creative process, use AI selectively, and always finish with a human quality check.

  • His question lingers: “How much is enough?” When do we stop outsourcing our edge?

Here’s what I think:

We’re not just outsourcing tasks. We’re outsourcing trust in ourselves. The allure of AI is real, but so is the risk. If we let machines do the thinking for us, we might forget how to think at all.

DeepFakes

America’s nukes are built for Cold War threats not AI lies

Deepfakes aren’t just political toys. According to nuclear security expert Erin Dumbacher, they could be the spark that sets off a global catastrophe and right now, the U.S. isn’t ready.

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • In 1983, a false alarm nearly triggered nuclear war and it was a human, not a system, who prevented it.

  • Today, deepfakes and AI hallucinations pose a new kind of risk: convincing leaders that an attack is happening when it’s not.

  • The U.S. and other nuclear states still depend on “launch on warning” protocols, which leave only minutes to interpret threats.

  • With AI in the mix, a fake video, spoofed satellite signal, or machine-generated analysis could tip the balance.

  • Research shows most humans defer to AI even when it's wrong especially under pressure.

  • The Trump administration is pushing aggressive AI use across defense, but early-warning systems remain dangerously fragile.

  • Dumbacher argues for a hard line: humans must remain in full control of all nuclear decision-making no exceptions.

Here’s what I think:

Speed without certainty is a deadly gamble. The more we automate, the more we need to remember that some decisions especially nuclear ones can’t be taken back. AI might make us faster. But if it ever makes us wrong, there may be no one left to fix it.

Growth in AI

Google Gemini is quietly catching up to ChatGPT

Gemini’s share of generative AI traffic just jumped from 5.4% to 18.2%, signaling a deeper shift in how people use and stick with AI tools.

  • New data from Similarweb shows Gemini is growing not by hype, but by habit.

  • In the same period, ChatGPT’s share dropped from 87.2% to 68.0% a sign that dominance doesn’t equal permanence.

  • Google’s key advantage? Integration. Gemini shows up in tools people already use: Search, Chrome, Android, and Docs.

  • That moment-of-need access makes a difference users don’t have to go looking for AI; it finds them.

  • Microsoft’s Copilot, also bundled into Windows, hasn’t seen the same growth proving that visibility alone doesn’t guarantee traction.

  • Gemini seems to be converting casual users into regulars, which is rare in a space known for tool-hopping.

  • As AI use shifts from experimentation to routine, whoever fits most naturally into daily life may win.

Here’s what I think:

The AI battle is moving from product to platform. Gemini’s rise suggests people don’t just want a powerful tool they want it right where they already are. If ChatGPT can’t meet users at that moment, someone else will.
