Anthropic is going to launch voice AI soon

Plus: OpenAI’s latest models hallucinate more, ChatGPT gets memory-powered search, viral photo geolocation raises red flags, and a $3B coding startup deal is brewing.

In 1983, William Gibson wrote Neuromancer.

He coined the term “cyberspace.”

Described the internet before most had a PC.

His vision?

Hackers, AI, and virtual worlds.

The dude basically saw 2025... in ‘83.

Anthropic’s Claude Is Getting a Voice - Three, Actually

AI generated

Anthropic is preparing to launch voice capabilities in its Claude chatbot, joining the AI voice assistant race alongside OpenAI and Google.

  • Bloomberg reports Claude will soon offer three English voice options: Mellow, Airy, and Buttery

  • The feature could roll out as early as this month

  • Anthropic’s Chief Product Officer, Mike Krieger, confirmed voice is in development

  • Early signs of the feature appeared in Claude’s iOS app code

  • Claude already competes with ChatGPT on reasoning, and now it’s stepping into voice

Here’s what I think:

Adding voice isn’t just a feature it’s a modality shift. Text is linear and careful. Voice is real-time and emotional. When you give an AI a voice, you stop typing to a model and start talking to a presence. This move won't just change Claude. It could change how users perceive intelligence altogether.

Problem

OpenAI’s New Reasoning Models Hallucinate More, Not Less

Read in detail here about this

OpenAI’s latest o3 and o4-mini models were designed to reason better but instead, they're making more stuff up.

  • Internal testing shows hallucination rates up to 48%

  • That’s double the rate of earlier models like o1 and o3-mini

  • OpenAI admits they don’t fully understand why this is happening

  • A key hypothesis: more reasoning = more claims = more risk of error

  • Third-party researchers also flagged o3 for inventing steps it never took

Here’s what I think:

When you increase a model’s confidence but not its epistemology, hallucinations rise. We tend to assume smarter means safer but in AI, more logic can just mean more convincing fiction. This is a reminder that reasoning and reliability are orthogonal. You need both, but they don’t arrive together.

Upgrade

ChatGPT Now Uses Your Memory to Personalize Web Searches

OpenAI has introduced a new feature that blends memory with live search, tailoring responses based on who you are.

  • “Memory with Search” uses past chats to refine search queries

  • Example: A vegan in San Francisco searching for restaurants might get a personalized query

  • The feature is part of a broader effort to differentiate ChatGPT from competitors

  • Users can disable it by turning off Memory in settings

  • Rollout appears to be staggered; not all users have access yet

Here’s what I think:

Search is no longer just a mirror of the internet it’s a mirror of you. This feature blurs the line between query and context. The question isn't just “what are you asking?” but “who is asking?” That’s powerful and potentially unnerving. Context is helpful, until it becomes assumption.

o3 model ability

ChatGPT’s Reverse Photo Search Trend Sparks Privacy Concerns

A viral new use case shows people using ChatGPT to deduce locations from photos sometimes down to specific bars or restaurants.

  • OpenAI’s o3 model can analyze and interpret uploaded images in great detail

  • Users are uploading street photos, menus, and facades to guess locations

  • The trend mimics the GeoGuessr game but with real-life implications

  • GPT-o4 mini performed surprisingly well in tests, often matching o3’s accuracy

  • OpenAI says safeguards exist, but abuse potential is real

Here’s what I think:

Tools evolve faster than rules. This isn’t just a technical leap — it’s a case study in unintended use. When you give general intelligence access to visual data, emergent behavior will follow. The technology isn’t malevolent. But it doesn’t need to be, to become dangerous.

Acquisition

OpenAI Reportedly in Talks to Acquire Windsurf for $3B

CC: Poniak Times

OpenAI is eyeing an acquisition of Windsurf, an AI coding assistant a move that could reshape its startup ecosystem.

  • Windsurf (formerly Codeium) has ~$40M ARR and raised $243M

  • Deal reportedly values the company at $3B

  • Windsurf competes with Cursor, another AI coding tool backed by OpenAI

  • Cursor’s ARR is 5x higher and valued near $10B

  • The deal could undermine OpenAI’s Startup Fund credibility if it favors competitors

Here’s what I think:

You can’t be both kingmaker and competitor forever. The moment you back a company, you create obligations. The moment you buy its rival, you challenge them.

This isn’t about capital it’s about coherence. Trust in ecosystems is fragile. When founders see the fund as political, they build elsewhere.
