Anthropic Researcher Leaves to Push for More AI Transparency

Plus: Former Google Researcher Warns AI Could Outpace Human Control

In partnership with

AI’s role is expanding faster than its rules can follow. Anthropic is warning how attackers are already weaponizing AI. Former Anthropic and Google researchers are raising deeper safety concerns. Meanwhile, OpenAI is pushing AI further into U.S. government operations. Together, these stories show how quickly AI is becoming infrastructure.

In today’s post:

  • AI is moving into government

  • AI researchers are leaving the room

  • AI just changed cyberattack economics

Hire Ava, the AI BDR built for enterprise

Ava is the first AI BDR to run outbound end to end, and you decide whether she runs autonomously or on copilot.

She finds leads or ingests accounts from your CRM, enriches them, sends personalized emails on behalf of your reps, follows up, handles replies and books meetings. Website visitor de-anonymization, intent signals, and a parallel dialer come built in.

A small team can manage her centrally for thousands of reps who never log in. Everything syncs two-way with Salesforce and HubSpot.

Ava runs outbound for companies like DoorDash and Grammarly, and one customer deploys her across 1,000+ reps. Ava is SOC 2 Type II audited, SSO and GDPR ready. Ava is how revenue teams grow pipeline without growing headcount.

STRATEGY

Sophisticated cyberattacks no longer need sophisticated attackers

Anthropic’s latest threat report shows a major shift. AI is not inventing entirely new attacks. It is making existing attacks dramatically easier to scale. Attackers still use phishing, stolen credentials, and exposed systems. What changed is who can now operate them.

  • AI agents now handle reconnaissance, exploitation, and data processing automatically.

  • Individual attackers can run campaigns once requiring specialist teams.

  • Some operations compromised targets within only a few hours.

  • Attackers used multiple agents to pursue victims simultaneously.

  • Stolen AI credentials became valuable infrastructure for further attacks.

  • AI also helped attackers rebuild malware after security detection.

  • Human operators increasingly choose targets while AI handles execution.

The important change is economic. Reconnaissance once required people, time, and specialist knowledge. Now much of that work can run automatically. That lowers the cost of attacking smaller targets. It also makes far more targets worth attacking. Cybersecurity may become less about stopping brilliant hackers. It may become about surviving relentless, inexpensive automation. That changes th defender’s question. Not “Can someone attack us?” But “How cheaply can someone keep trying?”

POLICY

OpenAI wants AI embedded across American government

OpenAI just signed a major government agreement. The goal is broader than selling software. It wants AI used across public-sector work. That includes cybersecurity, health, taxes, and research. And the potential user base is enormous.

  • Eligible government agencies can avoid the standard license fee.

  • Federal, state, local, and tribal governments all qualify.

  • Usage costs will be discounted by 50%.

  • Around 23 million public-sector workers could become eligible.

  • Government cyber defenders receive expanded access to advanced AI tools.

  • The agreement runs through the end of 2028.

  • OpenAI will also provide training and adoption support.

Some early examples already show the potential. Georgia cut one digitization task dramatically. The CDC accelerated lengthy research reviews. North Carolina found potential unclaimed property for residents. The bigger story is what happens next. AI is moving from pilot projects into everyday institutions. The interesting question is no longer whether governments adopt AI. They probably will. The harder question is what dependence follows adoption. Once millions of public workers build workflows around one technology, switching becomes harder. That makes procurement decisions unusually important. Today’s productivity tool can become tomorrow’s public infrastructure.

AI SAFETY

The people building advanced AI are starting to walk away

Anthropic and Google just lost two AI safety researchers. Their concern is not that AI might become powerful. That part is already happening. Their concern is what happens when control starts slipping. And they believe the public sees too little.

  • Former Anthropic researcher Joe Benton says AI progress could become uncontrollable.

  • Former Google researcher Josh Engels says stronger public oversight is needed.

  • Both researchers are leaving major labs to join safety nonprofit METR.

  • Their focus will be investigating AI behavior beyond human intentions.

  • They argue today’s transparency still depends largely on company choice.

  • Recent autonomous AI incidents have intensified concerns about agent behavior.

  • The bigger fear is AI eventually accelerating its own development.

This matters beyond any single company. Frontier labs are racing toward automated AI research. That could make future systems improve increasingly faster. Yet public oversight remains far behind technical progress. The important story is not whether extinction predictions are correct. Nobody can know that with confidence today. The important signal is where these warnings originate. These researchers had unusually close views of frontier systems. Now some believe influence works better from outside the labs. That should make everyone ask one uncomfortable question: Who watches the systems when their creators cannot?
