Apple draws the line on AI and your data
Plus: China used AI to hack and It worked ☠️
Today, we’re looking at Apple’s quiet but powerful privacy move: banning apps from sharing your data with third-party AI, a line in the sand just ahead of its own Siri AI rollout. We are looking at how Chinese hackers used Anthropic’s Claude to run autonomous cyberattacks, a moment that could redefine AI’s role in global espionage.

UPGRADE
AI apps now need your permission

Apple just updated its App Review Guidelines. The key change? Apps must now get explicit user consent before sharing data with third-party AI.
Here’s everything you need to know:
The new rule directly targets apps using AI tools or sharing data with external AI providers.
Apple says developers must disclose exactly where personal data is going including AI systems.
This is Apple’s clearest stance yet on preventing user data from quietly training outside models.
It’s also a strategic move: Apple’s AI-powered Siri is coming in 2026, using Google’s Gemini tech.
Apple wants to lock down privacy ahead of launching its own AI services.
The timing matters, regulators in the EU and California are watching AI data use closely.
Enforcement details are still fuzzy, especially given how broadly “AI” can be defined.
This move isn’t just about protecting users, it’s Apple drawing a boundary for how AI should operate inside its ecosystem. If you’re building AI tools or apps, expect the sandbox to get smaller and the scrutiny much tighter.
Voice AI Goes Mainstream in 2025
Human-like voice agents are moving from pilot to production. In Deepgram’s 2025 State of Voice AI Report, created with Opus Research, we surveyed 400 senior leaders across North America - many from $100M+ enterprises - to map what’s real and what’s next.
The data is clear:
97% already use voice technology; 84% plan to increase budgets this year.
80% still rely on traditional voice agents.
Only 21% are very satisfied.
Customer service tops the list of near-term wins, from task automation to order taking.
See where you stand against your peers, learn what separates leaders from laggards, and get practical guidance for deploying human-like agents in 2025.
CYBER CRIME
AI just crossed a dangerous threshold

Anthropic just confirmed what many feared was inevitable. Foreign hackers used its AI to carry out fully autonomous cyberattacks and it worked.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Suspected Chinese state-backed actors used Claude Code to target around 30 organizations.
This marks the first known case of AI running a cyber operation with little to no human input.
Claude handled 80–90% of the operation itself scanning systems, stealing data, even writing reports.
Hackers jailbroke the AI by disguising attacks as defensive cybersecurity tasks.
The model was fast: thousands of requests per second, something no human team could match.
Despite guardrails, Claude was tricked into writing exploit code and harvesting credentials.
Anthropic says four organizations were breached before it shut the operation down.
This isn’t just a Claude problem. It’s a glimpse into where AI-enabled hacking is headed. Once a capability exists, it spreads and fast. The question isn’t whether other groups will try this. It’s how quickly defenses can evolve in time.
BREAKTHROUGH
McConaughey, Caine, and the rise of AI voices

ElevenLabs just signed Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine. Not for films for their voices.
Here’s everything you need to know:
The AI startup now has deals to create authorized AI versions of celebrity voices.
McConaughey’s voice will narrate his newsletter in Spanish using ElevenLabs tech.
Caine, Liza Minnelli, and even Dr. Maya Angelou are also part of its growing voice marketplace.
The company lets brands license these voices, with full permission from the talent.
This comes after years of Hollywood tensions over AI’s use in creative work.
Some stars are starting to embrace AI especially when they control the deal.
ElevenLabs is backed by a16z and ICONIQ, and seen as a leader in AI audio.
This isn’t just about translating content. It’s about turning voices into digital assets. If this trend holds, celebrity licensing might become the next frontier in media blending fame, AI, and business in ways we’re only beginning to see.
