MAIN STORY:

ChatGPT-4o Vs. Claude Sonnet 3.5

This week, Anthropic launched Claude 3.5 Sonnet, an upgrade that claims to outperform OpenAI's GPT-4o. I decided to put these two giants to the test with some real-world challenges. Here’s how they fared:

1. Reading My Handwriting

I’ve got terrible handwriting. For the test, I wrote a haiku prompt: “Write a haiku about a cute cat on a rock.” Both bots delivered haikus that were decent and accurate, but Claude also provided an explanation. A second test with a scribbled shopping list had both bots recognizing all items.

Winner: ChatGPT-4o (slightly more poetic haiku)

2. Making a Game in Python

I asked both bots to generate a functional tower defense game in Python. ChatGPT provided basic snippets, resulting in a rudimentary, non-playable game. Claude, however, delivered a fully functional game with features like life bars and a point system. Even when asked for enhancements, Claude further improved the game significantly.

Winner: Claude 3.5 Sonnet (easily)

3. Vector Art

I challenged both bots to create a vector graphic of a spaceship. ChatGPT initially refused and eventually produced a messy output after multiple prompts. Claude, on the other hand, produced a neat, simple rocket graphic on the first try.

Winner: Claude 3.5 Sonnet

4. A Long Story with Humor

For a humor test, I asked for a 2,000-token story about a cat on a rock. Both bots delivered two-scene stories, but Claude’s was funnier, incorporating humor naturally into the narrative. ChatGPT’s humor felt forced with awkward one-liners.

Winner: Claude 3.5 Sonnet

While GPT-4o remains impressive, Claude 3.5 Sonnet shows significant improvements, especially in tasks requiring creativity and humor. For now, Claude 3.5 Sonnet takes the crown.
