Claude finally gets web search

Plus: xAI launches API for generating images. What's next? Dive in

In 1966, ELIZA was the first chatbot imitating a therapist.

It was primitive, but it started a revolution. Fast forward to 2025: AI isn’t just talking it’s thinking, writing, and building businesses. Imagine what’s next.

In today’s post:

  • Anthropic: Claude can now web search

  • xAI: API for generating images

Claude Finally Gets Web Search

Claude, web search

Anthropic’s AI chatbot, Claude, just got web search something it’s been missing for a while. If you’re a paid user in the U.S., you can now turn it on and let Claude pull real-time information from across the web.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Web search is in preview for paid users, with free access coming later.

  • Only available on Claude 3.7 Sonnet (for now).

  • Citations included – Unlike some AI chatbots, Claude gives sources so you can fact-check.

  • Still a work in progress – It doesn’t always trigger for current events, and like other AI tools, it might still hallucinate or misinterpret sources.

Here’s what I think:

Claude catching up with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Mistral’s Le Chat was inevitable. Web search makes chatbots more useful, but it also increases the risk of misinformation. Even the best AI models still get things wrong over 60% of the time. So, while this is a big step for Claude, the real question is: Can it stay accurate?

Would you trust an AI chatbot for real-time info, or do you still double-check everything?

xAI

xAI Joins the AI Image Game But Is It Worth It?

Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, just dropped a new feature: an API for generating images. If you’re into AI-generated art, this might be worth watching. But is it any good?

Here’s the deal:

  • The model is called “grok-2-image-1212.” Not the catchiest name, but it gets the job done.

  • It costs $0.07 per image. That’s cheaper than some competitors, like Ideogram ($0.08), but more expensive than Black Forest Labs ($0.05).

  • No quality or style controls yet. You get what you get—no fine-tuning options.

  • Limited to 10 images per request, five requests per second. Not bad, but not groundbreaking either.

  • xAI is hunting for revenue. They’re reportedly eyeing a $10 billion funding round, possibly pushing their valuation to $75 billion.

Here’s what I think:

This feels like a “testing the waters” move. The pricing is competitive, but without customization features, it’s not a game-changer yet. That said, xAI is moving fast they just bought a generative AI video startup and are expanding their data centers. If they keep this up, their AI models could get much more interesting.

Cloudflare

Meet Cloudy: Cloudflare’s New AI Assistant That Simplifies Security

Cloudy by Cloudflare

Managing security policies can feel like sorting through a junk drawer full of important stuff but impossible to make sense of. Cloudflare knows the struggle, so they built an AI assistant to do the heavy lifting. Meet Cloudy, your new AI-powered security sidekick.

Here’s what it does:

  • Deciphers WAF Custom Rules – If you’ve got a mess of firewall rules, Cloudy will break them down, highlight duplicates, spot conflicts, and suggest fixes.

  • Cleans Up Gateway Policies – Overlapping rules? Confusing settings? Cloudy makes policies easy to understand, helping admins catch mistakes before they cause problems.

  • Runs on Workers AI – It’s powered by Cloudflare’s own AI tech, analyzing security configurations and turning them into clear, actionable insights.

  • Saves time & headaches – No more digging through complicated settings. Cloudy streamlines security without the manual hassle.

Here’s what I think:

AI should make life easier, not more complicated. Cloudy seems like a step in the right direction and helping teams stay secure without spending hours untangling policies. And since it’s just the beginning, Cloudflare might soon have AI handling even more of the grunt work.
