Gemini App in iPhone?
PLUS: Real DJ is 100x better than Spotify AI. What do you think?
Siri is already on the iPhone, so what role will Gemini play?
If you're an iPhone user, you know that Siri can't do everything you want. It's a bit slow and needs more refinement.
On the other hand, Google Gemini outperforms Siri. The Gemini app is coming to the iPhone, but is that all? No.
Read on to discover what's coming and what you need to know.

What's New in AI?
Gemini App
The new Google Gemini App
Google could be bringing its Gemini app, including the conversational Gemini Live feature, to iPhone users, potentially offering a powerful new alternative to Siri.
Reported Testing: According to 9to5Google, a user in the Philippines spotted the Gemini app on the iPhone App Store, suggesting Google is testing the iOS version in select regions.
Dedicated App Advantage: While iPhone users can currently access Gemini through the Google app, a standalone app would likely speed up access and offer iOS-specific features.
Gemini Live: This feature focuses on open-ended, conversational AI interactions. We found Gemini Live to feel impressively natural, with a conversational style comparable to ChatGPT Voice.
Apple’s AI Rollout: Apple continues to release its own Apple Intelligence features, with new additions like Writing Tools and Movie Memories arriving through iOS updates. Siri is also expected to integrate with ChatGPT in iOS 18.2.
A Win for Older iPhones: For users with older iPhones that might not support Apple Intelligence features, Gemini could be a compelling option.
With Black Friday around the corner, it’s an ideal time to consider upgrading to one of the latest iPhones to make the most of these advanced AI features.

OpenAI improvements
Make it better so it can’t slowdown anymore!
According to a recent report from The Information, OpenAI’s next major model, codenamed "Orion," isn’t delivering the same leap in performance seen between GPT-3 and GPT-4.
Employees testing Orion noted that while it does outperform existing models, the improvements seem to be leveling off, with mixed results in certain areas like coding.
To address this, OpenAI has formed a dedicated foundations team tasked with finding ways to keep up the momentum. Their approach reportedly involves:
Synthetic Data Training: Using data generated by other AI models to supplement dwindling supplies of real-world training data.
Post-Training Improvements: Increasing focus on refining models even after the initial training phase.
OpenAI has yet to comment on these reports, though it has previously stated that it doesn’t plan to release a model called “Orion” this year.
If Orion does launch, it may be a critical test of OpenAI's adaptability in a world where data scarcity could start to reshape the AI landscape.
AI replacing translators?
As AI technology rapidly improves, it’s starting to look like a more feasible tool for translation. But when it comes to literary works, many authors and translators are concerned that machine translation is no match for human nuance.
Recently, Dutch publisher Veen Bosch & Keuning announced plans to use AI to translate some commercial fiction, sparking controversy in the industry.
Here’s what experts are saying:
More Than Words: "A translator does more than just translate words," says Michele Hutchison, who won the International Booker Prize for her translation work. Translators bridge cultural gaps, interpret subtleties, and provide context — elements that AI may miss entirely.
Cultural Sensitivity: AI translation could lack cultural nuance. Author Juno Dawson notes that AI is prone to using outdated terms, especially for sensitive topics. In one case, a reader flagged an outdated term for a trans character, which could have gone unnoticed with AI alone.
Opportunities in Niche Markets: For lesser-known languages and smaller creators, AI could open new doors. AI-assisted translation might allow authors and developers in minority languages to reach more audiences. Video game developers, for instance, see potential in AI tools for smaller tasks but caution that deeper, nuanced dialogue still requires a human touch.
Translation as Craft: "These writers are artists in their own right," Dawson adds. Translators view their work as an art form, capturing the voice and intent of an author with painstaking attention. Many translators are now labeling their work as "hand-crafted" to distinguish it from machine-generated output.
Challenges Beyond English: Noun Town, a language-learning game, found that AI translations into non-English languages led to confusing, sometimes nonsensical results. According to designer Jack Ratcliffe, while AI might handle basic instructions, it struggles with nuanced dialogue, making it risky for any project that values context and meaning.
The distinction here is clear: while AI may be useful as a dictionary or for quick translations, the depth of human translation goes beyond mere word substitution. As Hutchison notes, “It’s a lot more than just typing with a dictionary.”
Google’s Learn About AI tool
Google’s Learn is here for everyone!
Google’s Learn About AI tool, powered by the LearnLM model, goes beyond typical chatbots by delivering educational, textbook-style answers to help users learn rather than just providing facts.
Here’s what makes Learn About stand out:
Educational Approach: Built to support learning with answers grounded in educational research and interactive visuals.
Textbook-Style Elements: Adds context boxes like “why it matters” and “build your vocab” to deepen understanding.
Guided Exploration: The sidebar suggests related topics, encouraging users to explore further.
Improved Accuracy: Even on quirky queries (like “What’s the best glue for pizza?”), it identifies misconceptions and corrects them effectively.
In a quick test with, “How big is the universe?” Learn About not only provided the answer but presented visuals and insights to create a mini-learning session.
For those looking to learn, Learn About is more than an AI—it’s a guide through new knowledge.
Your DJ is better than Spotify AI
Spotify AI is not life your local DJ. Period.
Spotify’s new AI DJ offers personalized music picks and can even greet you by name, but it can’t match the experience of a real, live DJ.
After using it for a week, it’s clear: there’s a huge difference between an algorithm playing songs you like and a human DJ spinning tracks with genuine passion.
Here’s what makes the human touch irreplaceable:
A Real Connection: A human DJ builds a relationship with their audience, sharing personal stories and struggles that resonate. AI can’t forge these kinds of emotional connections.
Unexpected Pairings: DJs create surprising, memorable juxtapositions, playing songs back-to-back that you might never think to combine, which gives the experience a unique, curated flavor.
Diverse Listening: Human DJs mix it up—some songs you love, some you don’t. This variety introduces you to new genres and artists in a way AI playlists can’t replicate.
Community Presence: Local DJs like those at KEXP interact with their community, whether it’s emceeing festivals or supporting local artists. AI is just a distant, data-driven voice.
The Human Touch: A real DJ plays songs they genuinely enjoy, which gives the music a unique authenticity that an AI just can’t fake.
While Spotify’s AI DJ might be a fun experiment, it doesn’t have the soul and spontaneity that makes live DJing special. When it comes to music, there’s still nothing like a human DJ who shares your love for good tunes.
