Ghibli studio can sue OpenAI

"AI wonā€™t take your job. A person using AI will." Let that sink in.

The real threat isnā€™t robots. Itā€™s the people adapting faster than you.

In todayā€™s post:

  • OpenAI: AI copyright concerns

  • Google: New vacation planning features

  • North Korea: AI suicide drones

  • Prediction: AI will replace more jobs (Bill Gates say this)

Whatā€™s Trending Today

OpenAI

The internetā€™s having a Ghibli moment and the lawyers are watching

You know itā€™s serious when your feed turns into a flood of AI-made anime. This week, everyoneā€™s been playing with OpenAIā€™s new image generator, turning Elon Musk, Trump, and even Tolkien characters into Studio Ghibli-style art. Even Sam Altman jumped in and made one his profile pic.

So whatā€™s actually going on?

  • OpenAI dropped a new image tool inside ChatGPT, and people are using it to remix existing photos in wild new styles.

  • Studio Ghibliā€™s vibe is the current obsession, but itā€™s not just that. People have made Pixar-style wedding photos and Seussian portraits of tech bros.

  • These tools donā€™t just copy they recreate styles from just a prompt. And thatā€™s where the copyright tension starts.

  • Is it legal to imitate an art style thatā€™s not directly protected by copyright?

  • According to IP lawyer Evan Brown, yesā€¦ for now. Style alone isnā€™t covered. But if the model was trained using copyrighted films? Thatā€™s where things get tricky.

  • Lawsuits are already rolling in from The New York Times to artists and publishers all asking the same thing: is training on copyrighted work fair use or not?

Hereā€™s what I think:

This isnā€™t just about AI making cool art. Itā€™s about whether the future of creativity gets shaped by prompts or by permission. Right now, the tech is racing ahead. But the law? Still stuck buffering.

Google

Google just made planning your summer trip way lazier (in a good way)

Planning a vacation used to mean ten open tabs and a mild headache. Not anymore. Google just dropped a batch of new features across Search, Maps, and Gemini and theyā€™re clearly aiming to make your summer travel as easy as typing a sentence.

Hereā€™s the deal:

  • Search now gives you AI-generated travel itineraries. Type something like ā€œCosta Rica trip focused on nature,ā€ and it pulls up a whole plan photos, reviews, even a map.

  • You can export that plan to Docs or Gmail, or stash it in Google Maps as a custom list. Easy to share, easier to forget nothing.

  • Geminiā€™s "Gems" little AI helpers for specific tasks are now free for everyone. Make your own travel expert to suggest spots or help you pack.

  • Hotel price alerts are getting smarter. Google already tracked flight deals. Now itā€™ll ping you when hotel prices drop for your specific trip dates.

  • Got a camera roll full of screenshots from TikTok or Instagram? Google Maps will scan them, find the places, and help you turn them into actual plans.

  • This screenshot trick is out on iOS in the U.S. now. Android folks get it soon.

Hereā€™s what I think:

Googleā€™s not just playing catch-up with ChatGPT here theyā€™re quietly building a trip planner that knows your habits better than you do. And if it saves me from forgetting that random brunch spot I screenshotted at 2 AM? Iā€™m in.

North Korea

North Koreaā€™s getting into killer AI drones

So, Kim Jong Un just took a walk around a secret drone lab. Not for a photo op he was personally watching tests of North Koreaā€™s new AI-powered suicide and spy drones. Yes, welcome to 2025.

Hereā€™s the quick breakdown:

  • North Korea tested new drones built to track targets on land and sea, and strike them too. All powered by artificial intelligence.

  • Kim wants these drones, along with AI and unmanned tech, at the center of North Koreaā€™s military upgrades.

  • Photos showed the drones hitting targets, and one new aircraft a big early warning plane that looks a lot like South Koreaā€™s U.S.-made Peace Eye system.

  • The early warning aircraft had never been shown publicly before. It may be converted from a Russian cargo plane.

  • Kim was also shown new electronic jamming and intel-gathering tools developed by North Koreaā€™s electronic warfare division.

  • South Korea believes this tech boost might have some Russian fingerprints. Why? North Korea reportedly sent over 3,000 more troops and weapons to Russia this year in exchange for tech.

  • In total, around 11,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to support Russiaā€™s war, according to Seoulā€™s military.

Hereā€™s what I think:

Kimā€™s not just showing off toys. This is part of a bigger bet on AI-driven warfare. And with possible help from Russia, North Koreaā€™s playbook is starting to look more 21st century than weā€™d like.

Prediction

Bill Gates thinks your job might vanish and heā€™s not panicking about it

When Bill Gates talks about the future, people tend to listen even when what heā€™s saying sounds like the plot of a sci-fi movie.

Hereā€™s what he predicted it:

  • On The Tonight Show, Gates told Jimmy Fallon that in 10 years, AI will be giving out top-notch medical advice and tutoring for free.

  • He calls it ā€œfree intelligence.ā€ Basically, smart help available to anyone with a device.

  • The big tension? AI might take over most jobs. Gates agrees itā€™ll reshape industries from farming to manufacturing but says some human-only roles will still remain.

  • Heā€™s been on this beat for a while. Back in 2017, he flagged AI as a ā€œprofoundā€ shift. Then OpenAI blew past his expectations, building a model that aced AP Bio in months.

  • Gates admits the pace is ā€œa little scaryā€ but sees opportunity more than threat.

  • If he were starting a company today? Heā€™d go all-in on AI. He says anyone with a fresh take (even if itā€™s just a ā€œsketch ideaā€) can raise billions.

  • Sure, heā€™s not blind to risks from misinformation to job loss but he sees upside too: better healthcare, climate breakthroughs, and education for all.

Hereā€™s what I think:

Gates isnā€™t just predicting disruption heā€™s challenging the next generation to build through it. AI might shake the ground weā€™re standing on, but itā€™s also the frontier where the bold are already setting up shop.
