Google is turning Search into an agent.
Plus: Alibaba’s new AI chip shows China is moving faster
Google, Alibaba, and Nvidia all made AI moves this week, but they point to the same bigger shift: AI is moving beyond chatbots and into infrastructure, search, chips, agents, and robotics. Google wants Search to become more action-driven. Alibaba wants more control over China’s AI stack. Nvidia is betting Singapore can become a real-world testing ground for physical AI. The message is clear: the next AI race is not just about better models. It is about who owns the systems that make AI useful.
In today’s post:
Alibaba wants its own Nvidia moment
Google Search is becoming an agent
Nvidia is betting on Singapore

Alibaba’s new AI chip shows China is not waiting around

Alibaba just revealed a more powerful AI chip, the Zhenwu M890. The timing matters because Nvidia’s advanced chips still face limits in China. That pressure is pushing Chinese tech companies to build faster at home.
Here's everything you need to know:
Alibaba says the Zhenwu M890 is three times more powerful than its current Zhenwu 810E chip.
The new processor comes with 144 GB of GPU memory and 800 GB per second interchip bandwidth.
That matters because AI progress depends on compute, not just clever models.
Alibaba has already delivered 560,000 Zhenwu units to more than 400 customers.
Those customers span 20 industries, which suggests this is not just a lab project.
The company also teased Qwen3.7-Max, its next large language model.
Alibaba and China Telecom recently launched a data center powered by Alibaba’s own chips.
Alibaba is not only trying to build better AI products. It is trying to control the stack beneath them. That changes the game. When a company owns the chip, the model, and the cloud infrastructure, it becomes harder to compete with on price, speed, and distribution. The bigger question is simple: Will China’s AI ecosystem become weaker without Nvidia, or more self-reliant because of it?
BREAKTHROUGH
Google is turning Search from a place for answers into a place for action

Google just announced the biggest Search box upgrade in over 25 years. That sounds small. It is not. Search is no longer just about typing keywords and clicking links. Google wants it to understand your context, follow tasks, build tools, and act for you.
Here's everything you need to know:
Google is making Gemini 3.5 Flash the default model in AI Mode globally.
The new Search box can expand, suggest better questions, and accept files, videos, images, text, and Chrome tabs.
Users can now ask follow-up questions from AI Overviews and continue into AI Mode.
Google is launching Search agents that monitor the web for specific needs.
These agents can track things like apartment listings, sports news, product drops, or market updates.
Search will also help with bookings, including local services, beauty, pet care, and home repair.
Google is bringing agentic coding into Search, so users can create custom dashboards, trackers, simulations, and mini apps.
This is Google defending its most important habit. For 25 years, people searched because they needed information. Now, people increasingly want outcomes. Find the thing. Compare the options. Book the slot. Track the update. Build the tool. That is a much bigger job than answering a query. The risk is trust. When Search becomes an agent, it stops being neutral infrastructure. It starts making choices. And that may be the real future of search.

Singapore wants to become the testing ground for physical AI

Nvidia is launching its first research hub in Singapore. That matters because the next AI race may not happen only inside chatbots. It may happen in robots, drones, vehicles, factories, and delivery systems.
Here's everything you need to know:
Nvidia’s new Singapore lab will focus on embodied AI and efficient AI infrastructure.
Embodied AI means artificial intelligence that can act in the physical world.
Singapore is also launching a testbed for commercial AI robotics services.
Companies like Certis, DHL, Grab, and QuikBot are expected to use it first.
The testbed will help firms design, deploy, test, and validate real robotics services.
Singapore will also work with robotics firms like Slamtec, Unitree, and QuikBot.
Early trials will include food delivery, parcel delivery, cleaning, and security patrols.
Singapore is playing a smart game. It may not have the biggest market. But it can become the safest place to test what comes next. That is valuable. AI does not become real when a model scores well on a benchmark. It becomes real when it works in messy streets, buildings, airports, warehouses, and homes. Nvidia seems to understand that. The next AI breakthrough may not look like a better chatbot. It may look like a robot doing one ordinary job reliably.
