Plus: Spotify’s AI collab with record labels, Pinterest fights feed fatigue
Today we are looking into Spotify making its own power move, teaming up with the world’s biggest record labels to build responsible AI. And Kayak just quietly reinvented trip planning by launching a full AI Mode on its main site. The question is: will it convert curiosity into clicks?

Planning a trip? Your AI assistant is already waiting

Travel planning is about to get a lot less frustrating. Kayak just rolled out its own AI Mode.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Kayak launched an AI chatbot that helps users explore, compare, and book travel.
You can ask open-ended questions like "Where should I party for NYE?"
The bot handles flights, hotels, rental cars, and pricing comparisons in real-time.
It uses ChatGPT under the hood but is hosted directly on Kayak’s main site.
The move follows Kayak's earlier experiments on a separate AI site launched in April.
This tool aims to support early-stage planners who don’t yet know where to go.
Voice support and global language rollout are coming soon.
Here’s what I think:
This is what AI should do: remove friction. Travel planning isn’t just about prices; it’s about questions you don’t yet know how to ask. Kayak's AI Mode could make the open-ended phase of dreaming and deciding feel less overwhelming, if it can stay helpful without turning into a gimmick.

Spotify just teamed up with the music industry's biggest labels

The fight over AI-generated music isn’t theoretical anymore. Spotify just drew a line in the sand.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Spotify is partnering with Sony, Universal, Warner, Merlin, and Believe to develop AI tools "responsibly."
No specific products announced yet, but a new AI research lab is already in the works.
The goal: ensure artists, not just tech, benefit from AI in music.
This follows backlash over viral AI-generated artists like The Velvet Sundown.
Spotify removed over 75 million tracks for being spammy or deceptive.
Rights, consent, and compensation are now at the center of AI music policy.
Musicians are still skeptical, some have pulled catalogs to protest Spotify’s broader AI ties.
Spotify is trying to walk a tightrope: push innovation, avoid alienating artists, and still lead the industry. The real question is whether any platform can balance AI scale with human creativity, or if something essential gets lost in translation.
INNOVATION
Pinterest adds controls to limit AI slop in your recommendations

Pinterest users are fed up with low-quality AI art. Now the platform is finally doing something about it.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Pinterest launched new settings to let users see less AI-generated content.
The controls target categories most flooded with AI imagery: beauty, art, fashion, and home decor.
Users can now choose preferences in Settings under “Refine your recommendations.”
AI-generated content currently makes up 57% of all material online, according to Pinterest.
GenAI pins will also be more clearly labeled moving forward.
Users can flag individual Pins as AI-related and refine their feed in real time.
The feature is live on web and Android, with iOS rolling out in the coming weeks.
Pinterest is trying to walk a fine line between innovation and authenticity. The real test is whether users feel more in control or if the platform gets too flooded too fast. Tools are a start, but trust will depend on how well Pinterest enforces quality as the AI tide rises.
