LinkedIn Is Cracking Down on AI Slop

Plus: MiniMax Raises the Stakes in AI Video

In partnership with

Three stories. One clear trend. AI is entering a new phase where the winners won't be defined by bigger models alone. Microsoft's earnings reignited confidence in AI infrastructure, China's MiniMax pushed video generation forward with a powerful open-weight model, and LinkedIn took steps to curb low-quality AI content. Together, they show that the next chapter of AI is being shaped by three forces: investment, innovation, and trust.

In today’s post:

  • LinkedIn Just Declared War on AI Slop

  • China's AI Race Just Entered a New Phase

  • AI Is Back. Chip Stocks Explode.

How owning AI deployment expands your career

Across product, ops, and CX teams, a new kind of role is taking shape: the person responsible for making AI actually work, day to day. In this roundtable, three people living this shift share what it's really like: Simone Santiago Broad (Yoco), Yelva Espinoza (Zumba Fitness), and Fin's Dave Lynch. You'll hear how they carved out these roles, what the job looks like across industries, the skills they'd hire for, and the challenges they're tackling right now.

UPGRADE

The biggest threat to AI may not be AI. It's trust.

LinkedIn is introducing new tools to reduce low-quality AI-generated posts, signaling that the next phase of AI isn't about creating more content. It's about preserving authenticity. As AI writing becomes effortless, platforms are shifting their focus from generation to credibility.

  • LinkedIn now lets users report posts that "seem like AI slop," giving the platform direct feedback to identify low-quality, AI-generated content.

  • The company says it already blocks hundreds of thousands of automated comment attempts every day and millions of other automation attempts every few months.

  • New AI classifiers will reduce the visibility of low-quality posts in recommendations, making authenticity a ranking factor instead of just engagement.

  • Users will privately receive feedback if their content appears overly AI-generated, encouraging them to write in their own voice.

  • LinkedIn is also retiring its AI-powered "enhance your post" feature and replacing it with a proofreading tool that improves grammar without rewriting the author's message.

  • The announcement follows similar moves across the industry as platforms like Substack and infrastructure providers like Cloudflare respond to the growing flood of AI-generated content and bots.

  • The message is becoming clear across the internet: creating content with AI is no longer enough. Platforms increasingly reward originality, credibility, and genuine expertise.

Every major technology eventually creates its own scarcity. AI made content abundant. That makes authentic human perspective more valuable than ever. The winners won't be the people who publish the most. They'll be the ones readers recognize as unmistakably human. In a world full of generated words, trust becomes the ultimate competitive advantage.

LAUNCH

MiniMax isn't chasing AI anymore. It's challenging the leaders.

Chinese AI startup MiniMax has launched H3, a multimodal video-generation model that signals how quickly competition is evolving. The announcement isn't just about another AI model. It reflects a broader shift toward cheaper, more capable, and increasingly open AI systems.

  • MiniMax's H3 generates 15-second 2K videos with native stereo audio from text, images, video, and sound inputs.

  • The model can also edit existing videos and transfer movements between clips using simple instructions and reference content.

  • Unlike many competitors, MiniMax plans to release H3's model weights, allowing developers to download, customize, and build on the technology.

  • The launch intensifies competition with ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 and Kuaishou's Kling 3.0, two of China's strongest video AI platforms.

  • MiniMax says H3 targets commercial use cases including advertising, e-commerce, gaming, and product design while costing less than one-third of many competing models.

  • The company also designed H3 to run on multiple Chinese-made AI chips, supporting China's long-term effort to reduce reliance on U.S. semiconductor technology.

  • Founded only four years ago, MiniMax has quickly become one of China's leading AI startups, showing how fast the country's AI ecosystem is maturing.

Here's what I think:

The next AI battle won't be won by whoever builds the smartest model. It will be won by whoever makes powerful AI cheaper, more accessible, and easier to build upon. Open-weight models, lower inference costs, and hardware independence are becoming competitive advantages. The AI race is no longer just about intelligence. It's increasingly about distribution, economics, and developer adoption.

PROFITS

One earnings season changed the AI narrative overnight.

Microsoft and Amazon didn't just beat expectations. They reminded investors why AI spending hasn't slowed. That confidence spread quickly across global semiconductor markets, turning recent pessimism into one of the strongest rallies of the year.

  • Microsoft and Amazon's earnings restored confidence that enterprises continue investing aggressively in AI infrastructure.

  • SK Hynix surged more than 25%, while Samsung Electronics climbed over 20% as investors rushed back into AI memory leaders.

  • Japanese semiconductor companies including Advantest, Tokyo Electron, Renesas, and Lasertec also posted double-digit gains.

  • The rally wasn't limited to individual stocks. The iShares Semiconductor ETF gained more than 8%, showing broad optimism across the sector.

  • Memory chip demand remains one of the clearest signals of AI growth because every advanced AI model requires massive amounts of high-bandwidth memory.

  • Markets had recently questioned whether AI spending was peaking. Strong cloud earnings challenged that assumption in a single trading session.

  • The message is simple. As long as hyperscalers continue expanding AI infrastructure, companies supplying chips, memory, and semiconductor equipment remain central to the investment story.

Markets often swing between excessive optimism and unnecessary fear. This rally is a reminder that long-term trends rarely move in straight lines. AI demand will experience periods of doubt, but every earnings season offers fresh evidence. Investors who focus on the underlying business momentum instead of daily headlines are usually better positioned to recognize where durable value is being created.
