Tools
Figma’s new AI tools are taking on Canva, Wix, and even WordPress

Figma just launched a suite of AI-powered features that go far beyond design. These updates turn the platform into a serious competitor for everything from web development to marketing and content creation.
Info on the new tools:
Figma Sites lets you generate and publish fully responsive websites with AI no dev needed.
The new CMS supports blog editing, asset management, and even blog post generation.
Want scroll effects, transitions, or animations? You can add them directly inside Figma.
Figma Make helps teams build working app prototypes using prompts — code is editable.
Marketers get Figma Buzz to auto-generate branded assets from templates and spreadsheets.
Figma Draw now supports advanced vector editing like brushes, textures, and multi-vector edits.
A new $8/month content seat unlocks access to Buzz, Slides, CMS, and more tools for creators.
Here’s what I think:
Figma’s no longer just a design tool it’s quietly becoming an end-to-end product builder. If they pull this off, the line between designer, marketer, and developer might blur for good.

Mistral Medium 3 is fast, cheap, and catching up to Claude

Mistral benchmarks
French AI startup Mistral just launched Medium 3 a model that claims Claude-level performance at a fraction of the price. It’s now live in API and on AWS.
Here’s everything you need to know:
Medium 3 costs just $0.40 per million input tokens far less than Claude.
On benchmarks, it matches or beats Claude Sonnet 3.7 and Llama 4 Maverick.
The model runs on just 4 GPUs, making it viable for self-hosted setups.
Mistral says it’s especially strong in STEM tasks, coding, and multimodal work.
Early testers include clients in finance, energy, and healthcare using it for automation and data analysis.
It’s available today via API and AWS, with Azure and Google support coming soon.
Mistral also rolled out Le Chat Enterprise, a workplace chatbot with deep tool integrations.
Here’s what I think:
Mistral is betting that smaller, cheaper, and fast-to-deploy models are the future. If their benchmark claims hold up, this could pressure bigger players to rethink how they price and package AI.

Open Computer Agent shows how far open AI tools have come
We're launching Computer Use in smolagents! 🥳
-> As vision models become more capable, they become able to power complex agentic workflows. Especially Qwen-VL models, that support built-in grounding, i.e. ability to locate any element in an image by its coordinates, thus to

Hugging Face has released a browser-based AI agent that can use a virtual computer. It's free, imperfect, and a clear sign of where open AI is heading.
The agent runs in the cloud and uses a Linux VM with apps like Firefox pre-installed.
It can follow instructions like “find Hugging Face HQ in Paris” and use tools to complete the task.
It struggles with complex tasks and CAPTCHAs, and often queues users before starting.
The goal isn’t perfection it’s to show how capable and cheap open models have become.
It uses vision models that can recognize and click elements inside a virtual screen.
Enterprise interest is real: 65% of firms are now testing agents, per KPMG.
Here’s what I think:
This isn’t about performance it’s about proof of possibility. Hugging Face is betting that open agents will eventually match closed ones. And when they do, cost and access will matter more than polish.
Gadget
Copilot+ is coming to budget devices starting at $799

Microsoft just unveiled its most affordable AI-powered Surface devices yet. With Snapdragon chips and full Copilot+ support, they’re targeting students and early-career pros.
The new Surface Laptop (13”) and Surface Pro (12”) launch May 20 at $899 and $799.
Both run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus chip designed for power-efficient AI.
These are Microsoft’s lowest-priced devices to support full Copilot+ features.
Copilot+ lets users ask natural-language questions to adjust settings or draft docs.
Previously, AI features required $1,000+ machines due to hardware restrictions.
Microsoft says the goal is to widen access especially for students and young professionals.
The pricing undercuts Apple’s entry-level MacBook Air and iPad Pro alternatives.
Here’s what I think:
Microsoft’s strategy here is smart real AI adoption won’t happen until it’s affordable. This move signals they’re serious about making Copilot+ a core part of everyday computing, not just a premium perk.
