OpenAI’s Dots Can Work While You’re Away
PLUS: Google Is Building AI for Bigger Problems
Google is building AI that can handle longer, harder work. OpenAI wants AI working even when you aren’t prompting it. And Airbnb is quietly putting AI inside everyday travel decisions. Together, these launches point toward the same shift: AI is moving beyond answering questions and becoming part of how work gets done.

OpenAI’s new dots don’t wait for prompts

OpenAI just introduced dots. They aren’t designed for occasional questions. They can keep working without constant instructions. They learn your preferences and use connected apps. And they can continue working around the clock.
Dots run on their own cloud computers. They can handle projects while you focus elsewhere.
They connect with more than 4,000 apps through plugins. That lets them work across existing tools and workflows.
A dot learns how you prefer things done. Feedback gradually shapes how it approaches future work.
OpenAI says dots can act proactively. One early tester’s dot noticed an unpaid invoice automatically.
Developers can use dots for recurring product work. They can monitor feedback, build fixes, and prepare pull requests.
Dots can work through ChatGPT, Slack, and Teams. Context follows the dot between those different channels.
Users still control consequential actions. Permissions, rules, reviews, and approvals determine what happens automatically.
AI started as something you opened. Then it became something you talked with. Dots suggest something different. AI could become something that keeps working without you. That changes the question from “What should I prompt?” To “What should I delegate?”

Airbnb is putting AI inside the search box

Airbnb just launched its first AI search experience. But there’s an interesting constraint behind the rollout. Building AI search itself isn’t difficult. Making it useful without hurting bookings is. That explains Airbnb’s unusually cautious approach.
Travelers can now search using natural text or voice prompts. Airbnb then generates filters based on what they actually want.
Those filters can become surprisingly specific. Searching “baby” might surface cribs, playgrounds, books, and children’s toys.
AI will also highlight relevant property details. That reduces the digging usually required before making a booking.
Wish lists are becoming easier to compare. AI-generated summaries can surface differences across properties and their reviews.
Airbnb deliberately avoided making search another chatbot. The AI stays inside the existing discovery experience.
Social discovery is expanding alongside AI. Travelers can explore places their connections stayed or visited.
Airbnb is also creating neighborhood pages from guest reviews. These will surface local restaurants, activities, and other discoveries.
Airbnb’s approach reveals something important about AI products. Adding intelligence is becoming relatively easy. Changing user behavior without damaging conversion is harder. The best AI features may barely feel like AI. They simply remove friction from decisions people already make.

Gemini 4 Argon is built for problems AI usually abandons

Google just announced Gemini 4 Argon. The interesting part isn’t another benchmark win. It’s how long this model can keep working. Argon targets complex tasks requiring sustained reasoning. That could change what companies actually delegate to AI.
Argon expands output capacity from 64K to one million tokens. That gives the model far more room for long workflows.
Google says Argon agents helped optimize data-center memory. The resulting changes freed more than 300 TiB after rollout.
Google is testing Argon on huge code migrations. That includes moving C and C++ systems into Rust.
One video decoder project produced particularly striking results. Argon helped create Rust code running 2.7 times faster.
The model scored 77.9% on DeepSWE v1.1. That benchmark tests long-horizon, real-world software engineering work.
Cybersecurity is another major focus. Argon can find, validate, and patch software vulnerabilities autonomously.
Access will remain limited initially. Google plans broader availability after more safety testing.
The bigger shift isn’t smarter answers. It’s AI staying useful across much longer tasks. That moves models closer to completing entire workflows. And that creates a more important question. What happens when AI handles projects, not prompts?
