How AI-Era Pricing Is Reshaping Finance Operations
Usage-based and hybrid pricing models are changing how B2B companies generate revenue — and creating new headaches for the finance teams behind them.
Tabs co-founder Rebecca Schwartz and PwC Partner Amit Dhir sat down to unpack exactly what that means in practice: how pricing model decisions ripple into revenue recognition, forecasting, and financial ops — and what it takes to scale without piling on manual work.
Watch the on-demand recording to get practical frameworks, real-world examples, and a clear path to operationalizing usage-based revenue — including a forward-looking take on how AI will reshape financial workflows. If your team is navigating pricing complexity heading into the back half of the year, this is worth an hour.

BREAKTHROUGH
Stripe isn’t just a payments company anymore

Stripe has agreed to buy OpenRouter for over $7 billion. That number deserves attention. OpenRouter was reportedly valued near $1.3 billion months ago. Now Stripe is paying more than five times that. The interesting question is why.
OpenRouter gives developers access to hundreds of AI models. Instead of committing to one provider, companies can switch models based on price, performance, or specific needs.
That makes OpenRouter increasingly valuable as models multiply. The winner may not be one model. It could be the infrastructure connecting them.
Stripe already sits between businesses and payment providers. OpenRouter occupies a surprisingly similar position between developers and AI providers.
The reported price shows how valuable that position became. OpenRouter reportedly jumped from a $1.3 billion valuation to a deal exceeding $7 billion.
AI costs are becoming a serious business expense. Companies increasingly need ways to route requests toward cheaper models without sacrificing performance.
Stripe could now combine payments infrastructure with AI infrastructure. That gives it another critical layer inside modern software companies.
The bigger shift may be happening beneath AI applications. Models get attention, but routing, payments, and infrastructure can quietly capture enormous value.
Stripe seems to understand something important about platform shifts. You don't always need to build the winning product. Sometimes, you build the infrastructure everyone needs anyway. Stripe did that with internet payments. OpenRouter could give it a similar position in AI. And that may explain the $7 billion price tag.
ACQUISITION
The AI coding race just became a compute race

SpaceX has officially completed its acquisition of Cursor. The reported price is $60 billion. But the money isn't the most interesting part. Cursor is joining a company with enormous computing infrastructure. That changes what an AI coding company can become.
Cursor built its reputation around AI-assisted software development. Now it gets direct access to SpaceX's computing infrastructure.
Cursor says SpaceX operates the world's largest GPU fleet. That compute could support much larger AI workloads.
SpaceX already acquired xAI earlier this year. Adding Cursor brings another major AI product into its ecosystem.
The strategy connects three increasingly important layers. SpaceX provides compute, xAI develops intelligence, and Cursor applies it.
SpaceX is also renting computing capacity to outside companies. Customers reportedly include Anthropic and Google.
Cursor could benefit as AI coding becomes more compute-intensive. Better models require enormous infrastructure before developers see results.
This makes the $60 billion acquisition bigger than coding software. SpaceX is assembling infrastructure around how AI gets built and used.
The interesting advantage may no longer be software alone. AI products can increasingly copy each other's features. Compute is much harder to replicate. SpaceX now controls infrastructure and AI products together. Cursor gives that infrastructure a direct path to developers. That combination could matter more than any single coding feature.
HEALTHCARE AI
Healthcare AI’s biggest opportunity isn’t replacing doctors

Mayo Clinic has something most hospitals cannot replicate. Thousands of specialists work together on difficult cases. They have decades of clinical data behind them. Most community hospitals will never have those resources. AI could change that equation.
Mayo Clinic’s advantage comes partly from coordinated expertise. AI could help smaller hospitals access similar knowledge without hiring thousands.
Mayo is already turning its expertise into digital infrastructure. Its platform and thousands of clinical studies create valuable foundations for AI.
The opportunity extends beyond answering medical questions. AI could connect patient histories, lab results, research, and specialist knowledge faster.
That could matter most outside elite medical centers. Smaller hospitals often lack the specialists available at institutions like Mayo.
Technology alone will not recreate Mayo’s results. Teamwork, incentives, and patient-first culture remain important parts of its model.
Mayo CEO Gianrico Farrugia also wants executives experimenting personally with AI. Leaders cannot make informed AI decisions from presentations alone.
The larger shift could be democratizing medical expertise. Great clinical knowledge may become easier to distribute than great clinicians.
Healthcare may become one of AI’s most meaningful tests. The goal shouldn’t be replacing doctors with chatbots. It should be giving more doctors better intelligence. Today, geography can determine access to world-class expertise. AI could narrow that gap. But only if hospitals pair better technology with better systems.
