Upgrade
OpenAI quietly upgrades its smartest agent yet

Credits: OpenAI
OpenAI has swapped out the core AI model inside Operator, its flagship autonomous agent. The new engine? A custom build of its most advanced reasoning model yet: o3.
Here's everything you need to know about:
Operator can browse the web and use software on a cloud-hosted VM to complete user tasks.
It used to run on GPT-4o, but now it's powered by o3, OpenAI's newest reasoning-focused model.
By most benchmarks, o3 is stronger at math, logic, and structured problem solving.
The upgrade aims to make Operator more capable and more precise, especially under minimal supervision.
OpenAI also fine-tuned the new model for safety, using datasets that define when to say yes or no.
Compared to the GPT-4o version, o3 Operator is less likely to follow unsafe instructions or fall for prompt injection.
Despite inheriting o3's coding skills, this version of Operator can’t access a terminal or coding environment directly.
Here's what I think:
This upgrade is less about raw intelligence and more about trust. OpenAI is betting that smarter, safer agents will be the real unlock for practical autonomy. The race isn’t just who builds the best model it’s who makes it useful without babysitting.

OpenAI's Stargate just got a 400,000-chip power boost

Oracle is investing $40 billion into Nvidia chips to supercharge OpenAI's massive new data center. The Texas site, part of the Stargate project, will rival the world’s biggest AI infrastructure builds.
Here's everything you need to know:
Oracle will purchase around 400,000 of Nvidia’s GB200 chips and lease them to OpenAI.
The chips will power the Abilene, Texas data center, set to deliver 1.2 gigawatts.
Stargate is a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative led by OpenAI and SoftBank.
Oracle has signed a 15-year lease for the site, backed by $15B in financing from Crusoe and Blue Owl Capital.
JPMorgan is funding $9.6B of the debt, making it one of the largest infrastructure loans in AI.
The move reduces OpenAI’s reliance on Microsoft, which previously provided most of its compute.
OpenAI and Microsoft ended their exclusivity agreement due to growing infrastructure demands.
Here's what I think:
This isn’t just a chip purchase, it’s a shift in power. OpenAI is building its own backbone for the future, and Oracle is betting big on being its engine. As AI gets hungrier, whoever controls compute controls the pace of innovation.

The world’s best designer is now building for OpenAI

Unofficial design
Jony Ive, the design mind behind the iPhone and Apple Watch, is now shaping OpenAI's next generation of devices. This week, OpenAI acquired his startup io in a deal valued at $6.5 billion.
Here's everything you need to know:
Ive and Altman have teased an AI "companion" device not a phone, not wearable, but fully aware.
The new product could debut in 2026, blending ambient intelligence with personal utility.
LoveFrom, Ive’s design firm, will lead design across all OpenAI products moving forward.
About 55 engineers and experts from io will join OpenAI, focused on hardware and software.
The goal: a screenless device that connects users with AI in fundamentally new ways.
Altman hinted this could include a new kind of AI-powered computer, not just a gadget.
This move helps OpenAI expand beyond software into physical experiences people can touch and feel.
Here's what I think:
OpenAI isn’t just building smarter software. With Ive, it’s aiming to make AI a physical presence in our daily lives. If they succeed, this won’t be a product launch, it’ll be a new category of computing.
